About the Community Citizenship Awards
The Community Citizenship Awards program was established in 1999. Its purpose is to recognise and reward those schools and individual students or teams playing an active part in creating a more caring and benevolent community.
What Judges look for
The Judges will be looking to reward those students displaying exceptional citizenship qualities, for example:
- Putting others first
- Leadership through encouraging peers to get involved in community programs
- Volunteerism
These qualities may be applied to work with:
- The aged
- People from disadvantaged backgrounds
- Young children
- The environment
- The arts
- Sport
- Animal welfare
- The Environment
- Community groups such as: CanTeen, The Red Cross, RSPCA etc
The type of activity is not as important as the individual qualities demonstrated by the individual student or team.
- For Primary School candidates, ‘citizenship’ may be demonstrated within the school community
- For Secondary School candidates, ‘citizenship’ may be demonstrated within the school community or preferably outside the confines of the school, meaning the wider community.
The Judging Process
Short-listed candidates are selected from the submitted nominations. They will then be contacted to attend an informal interview on Monday 12 August at Wests Ashfield.
The interview is not intended to be intimidating or overly formal; rather it presents an opportunity for students to demonstrate their presentation and public speaking skills in a non-threatening environment. Students may be accompanied by a supervising teacher/guardian during the interview.
The interview judging panel may include representatives from:
- The Board of Directors of Wests Ashfield
- Local Council & organisations
Nominations close Midnight Friday, 2 August 2019
