Chief Executive Officer’s Message

Simon Cook Warm BG 2016-007 FINAL

Welcome back to Wests World for 2017. I hope all our members and their families had a very merry Christmas and are enjoying a happy and prosperous start to the New Year.

In reflecting on the past 12 months, your Club has seen exciting changes.

Your New Dining Destinations

The upgrade of our food and beverage offering on Level 2 introduced two new dining destinations, The Garden and Wongs’ Noodle Bar. Your Club can now cater to its diverse membership base and the broader community.

Wests Tigers Unification

With a 75% shareholding of Wests Tigers, our members and guests can look forward to seeing the new ‘Wests Brand Unification’. This exciting arrangement sees your Club as ‘the home of Wests Tigers’. For more information, please see page 19.

Wests World Refurbishment

Enhancements to the Club’s facilities are set to continue in 2017, with refurbishment works to be carried out to the Lounge on Level 2 and a full revitalisation of our alternate venue, Wests Sports Croydon. Further information on both of these projects will be available in due course.

Contributing To Your Community

Intra Clubs have been an integral part of the Club’s framework since it commenced in 1955. We’ve entered 2017 with 30 sporting organisations and an overall contribution of $1,830,600. This translates to widespread local community support for the benefit of some 9,000 registered members, incorporating approximately 580 teams and I’m delighted to welcome aboard two new organisations, Leichhardt Wanderers Netball Club and St Patricks Rugby Club.

Community Citizenship Awards

In other community news, nominations for this year’s Community Citizenship Awards will open on Monday, 1 May. This Club initiative allows the opportunity for local primary and secondary schools to be rewarded for the community spirit that they and their students demonstrate in their local community. Nominations can include students working with their peers, the aged, people from disadvantaged backgrounds, the environment, the arts and sport or community groups. Full details are available on the Club’s website under Community.

With the NRL season now upon us, I’d like to take this opportunity and wish both the Wests Magpies and Wests Tigers every success.
