Chief Executive Officer’s Message

Simon Cook Warm BG 2016-007 FINAL

In March, we were proud to announce the ‘Wests Brand Unification,’ the official ‘Home of Wests Tigers.’ Visually, the building’s exterior has been donned by the new logo. However, the excitement has been elevated by the presence of Wests Tigers players taking place here at the Club with the post-match event, ‘Pizza with the Players’ night and the full squad signing session. Further opportunities to get up close and personal with the players will be available throughout the season. Make sure you follow us on Facebook to find out more.

The finishing touches have been added to Level 2 with renovations to The Lounge and the addition of a new Sports Lounge (adjacent to The Garden Bar). This is a great informal space to meet with family and friends to view your favourite sport.

The Sports Lounge features an outstanding ‘Memorabilia Wall’ designed by the Wests Archives. Officially opened on 24th March, in line with the fifth annual ‘Magpie Heritage Night,’ both the Wests Magpies and Wests Cricket Clubs are rich in sporting history. The wall documents the timelines of these great local clubs that together share over 230 years in the NSW and national sporting spotlight. Balmain and Wests Tigers rugby league premiership details are also included in the story boards. The Wests Archives are excited to have a prominent space to showcase the depth of memorabilia we have on file.

Through our support of Canterbury Public Schools ‘Support Unit Playground,’ we had the pleasure of participating in the official opening last month. The behind-the-scenes story on the collaboration of this journey, from start to finish, bestows an innate sense of pride in being part of such a great, local community. Congratulations Canterbury Public School and all community partners involved for an amazing effort. See the full story on page 8.

Further on community support, the Category 1 ClubGRANTS funding applications for local community projects and services are now closed. The applications will be reviewed by the Inner West Local Committee which is represented by your Club, Ashfield RSL, Club Ashfield, Petersham RSL and Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL. The organisations that are successful in receiving funding will be notified mid to late July. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I’d like to take this opportunity in wishing the best of luck to each and every applicant.
