Chairman’s Message

Mike Bailey Warm BG 2016-002 FINAL

The Club has made a positive start to the year with our exciting new dining destination, The Garden, offering members and guests a broad range of food sensations. I would like to thank our members, their guests and our community partners who have been so supportive of this innovative development.

Annual General Meeting

The Club’s 62nd Annual General Meeting will be held on Saturday, 18 March from 10am in the Lounge on Level 2. This presents an opportunity to hear information regarding your Club’s performance and its future.

Wests Magpies’ AGM

Wests Magpies’ Annual General Meeting will be held the following day, Sunday, 19 March from 10am in the Lounge on Level 2.

Story of The Wests

“Clouds of Dust, Buckets of Blood”, the story of the Western Suburbs Rugby League Football Club (Wests Magpies), written by Gary Lester and originally published in 1995, captured the Club’s history from 1908 through to 1994. So much has transpired since that time, notably the merging of Wests Magpies and fellow foundation club, Balmain Tigers to create Wests Tigers, that Gary was further commissioned to update the history. His new work captures the era from 1908 through to 2015. This impressive book can be purchased from Club reception for $70.

Carnival of Cultures

We’re proud to again be the Major Sponsor for Ashfield’s 2017 Carnival of Cultures. I invite you to join us at Ashfield Park on Sunday, 19 March from 10am to celebrate Harmony Day and the vibrant cultures of our local government area. Entry is free, with live entertainment presented on 2 stages; international food and market stalls; a tree giveaway for local residents; sustainability workshops and great family enjoyment. It’s a day not to be missed.

Magpie Sports Awards

Nominations for the Magpie Sports Award will close on Sunday, 19 March. I invite the sporting organisations of the inner west, to submit nominations for individuals who deserve acknowledgement and reward for their outstanding performances. This may involve your junior or senior sports people, or volunteers who assist your operations. Further details are available on the Club’s website under Community.

On behalf of my fellow Directors, the management and our wonderful staff, thank you for your ongoing loyalty and support.

MIKE BAILEY
